 New System
« Thread Started on Jul 31, 2006, 2:58am »

Some problems have occured as to Chouji's absence from the site, but dont worry. Just because we dont know his system doesnt mean we cant play the game. If Chouji does not return by August 7th, then the system used below will be in effect.

Most RPing games are played with dice. Not your average Craps dice, these are polyhedron dice used in such games as Dungeons and Dragons. Never having played this game myself, I have no clue how they work. BUT, i did find some in my garage today and figuire I can make up my own ways.

~~~~~EXPERIENCE~~~~~
Experience is gained after training excercises and battles with other ninja. However, to keep things fair, battles happen rarely, and training is only allowed in one skill once a week. Skills will range from 1-10 in level. Everyone starts at level 1 in all subjects.
These subjects are:
Strength
Stamina
Chakra
Ninjutsu
Taijutsu
Genjutsu
Chakra Control
Dexterity
Concentration
Defence Class NOTE: Defence class runs differently than other levels. It is out of 20, not 10, and has a different exp rate. The rate is faster, but you can only train DC through battles.
I know it's a bit more than the old system, but things should still run smoothly. Now then, if everyone starts at 1, then training will have a certain effect on that person's level. But, how is this determined? Well we call on a little friend called the 4-sided die and roll up a number. The exp. charts can be found below:
Level 1 exp: 0________Next level exp: 10
Level 2 exp:10_______Next level exp: 22
Level 3 exp:22_______Next level exp: 34
Level 4 exp:34_______Next level exp: 50
Level 5 exp:50_______Next level exp: 70
Level 6 exp:70_______Next level exp: 94
Level 7 exp:94_______Next level exp: 124
Level 8 exp:124______Next level exp: 210
Level 9 exp:210______Next level exp: 300
Level 10 exp: 300+
Seems like a long way to go, but you have to realize that level 10 would be Supreme strength only possessed by a Kage. Now you're thinking to yourself "Thats great Kiroku, but what am i going to need these stupid numbers for?"
Well, the numbers obviously tell you how much exp until you level up, but that alone wont do anything. You see, the higher your level, the better chance you have of doing damage or other uses for a skill. Modifiers are also a big helper.......
~~~~~MODIFIERS~~~~~

Modifiers are crucial parts to a combat scene or other usages of skills. They are also key to training. Here's another chart:

Lvl 1: --
Lvl 2: --
Lvl 3: --
Lvl 4: +1
Lvl 5: +2
Lvl 6: +3
Lvl 7: +5
Lvl 8: +8
Lvl 9: +10
Lvl 10: +15

Again, what do all of these numbers mean? Well, let's give a combat example:

Let's just say that Kiroku Jira has a Ninjutsu level of 5, a chakra control level of 2, and a full stamina and chakra meter, but his opponent has a DC(Defence Class) of 17. Now what we would do is roll our handy dandy d20 and figuire out if Kiroku even hits or not. When we roll (which is done ONLY by a staff member) Kiroku gets a 16. That means that he has rolled lower than his opponents DC. However, since he stated that he was using a Ninjutsu, he adds a +2 modifier to his roll, giving him an 18. This means he has hit his opponent. Now, Kiroku is using "Lightning Vortex Jutsu." Since his Chakra control is only 2, he gets no modifier. "Lightning Vortex Jutsu" is a level 3 jutsu (also called a Finishing Jutsu) and takes a 15 or higher to use perfectly. Kiroku then rolls and gets a 13, falling short of his goal.

New......PART 2!!!!

Well then, now that we have covered some of the basics of RPing, and you've taken a while to implant it into your brain, lets move it right along to PART 2.

~~~~~Training and Classes~~~~~
Now, we have our dice, now it's just a matter of when to use them. Let's start with training. As with before, training is available on the weekends, and only once per weekend, but now things get changed up. Instead of stating which skill you will be training on for each day that week until the week expires, you are only permitted to train 4 days a week. Every ninja needs time for the body to recover, even if he/she does sleep all 8 hours. You will also state which day you are training, so a training submission sheet will look like this:
Monday Rest
Tuesday Special Technique
Wednesday Rest
Thursday Taijutsu
Friday Ninjutsu
Saturday Chakra Control
Sunday Rest
Notice that a whole day is put aside for Special Technique. Almost every ninja has something that makes him/her special, and is therefore harder to train because every one is different. Where Genjutsu can be a number of different things, a Special Technique is just that one move. But, Special Techs will be harder to counter, plus damage more.
Getting exp from a training session will only be determined by Staff. Getting exp might be more successful as you add a modifier, but you will always only roll a random number between 1 and 6. Awarding exp will be placed in a forum post at the end of each weekend, and will show the exp gained in the week before. Note that if you miss a week and dont tell a staff member that you cannot attend to check your improvement, we will not keep track of it and the thread gets deleted at the end of the week when the next one comes up, so keep track carefully. Also note that the staff section of the forum will have a copy of these posts going to make sure that nobody tries to enter in false data. Violators of that offense will have their character deleted and get a weeklong ban. If attempt to do so continues, the user will be banned indefinately. Cheery eh?
Classes are a whole different bag of glass, so watch carefully. Each weekend a class will be held. As with training, you may only attend a class once. The class will always be held by a staff member, so if anyone says an admin or other staff told them to run the class and there is no Sticky from a staff member verifying it, do not pay any attention to them. Anyway, the instructor will search through a list of students and roll for each of them in a random category that they trained in that week. The instructor will then roll a dice (d6) and determine the success of the test. If the number rolled is 4 or higher, the test is a success, and in that week the student gets 1 extra exp. point in that category.
~~~~~Beginning the RP~~~~~

An RPG is meant to engulf the player into a world completely described to them, but one that is so real they can almost sense it in every way. The job of the Overseer (Designated Staff member) is to describe to the players the scenario that they are in. The player is free to join in almost any way he/she can imagine, but if for some reason the Overseer does not see it as a just or otherwise fair entrance, he/she will modify the post to the point where it is legitimate. Please understand that this does not mean the Overseer has the right to completely alter your post. If there is any way possible to obtain a sense of what you were posting and keeping things fair, then by all means that is what they will attempt to do. If you have a problem with an Overseer then you may PM that person, and if no explanation is given, contact a different Staff member. It is never the job of the player to describe the surroundings they are in to others, unless through a dialogue from two different locations (which will be fed to that player by PM from the Overseer) or if he/she has done something to alter the enviornment that is immediate and could change the flow of the game if the Overseer isn't there to intervene for a long time in that same day.

PART 3!!!

~~~~~Combat and NPC's~~~~~
Aah, combat. Everyone has it in a good RPG, but how does it work? Well, the mechanics for it are quite simple, but the jutsus would make you think it to be hard, but think again. Each jutsu has a class, but starting now it will also have a value. This value, in group with your Chakra meter, will tell you if you have the chakra to perform a set jutsu. The jutsu's are as follows
Academy Techniques 1/2 chakra bar
Genin Fighting Jutsus 1 chakra bar
Chunin level jutsu 2 Chakra bars
Jounin level jutsu 3 Chakra bars
Secret Technique 4 Chakra bars
All ninja start off with 10 chakra bars at level 1, but instead of raising 1 bar per level, they only go up 1/2 per level. To use a jutsu in combat, follow procedures below:
Kiroku Jira is in combat with Bakemoto Kita in the middle of the Leaf Village.
Kiroku's Post: Jira looked up as Kita walked over to him, menacing look in her eyes as they started combat
Kita's post: She smiled at him thinking to herself 'If i could just pull off my secret technique this one is over, but i need flowers first......' Kita leapt from her feet and dove through the air towards Jira, hoping to hit him with her "Wind drill strike (Made up jutsu, dont try to use it without creating it first)
Kiroku: Jira saw he coming towards him but reacted too late
(The overseer will then modify his post containing the damage done) -1 hp. Jira rolled backwards from the force of the impact but sprang back up. He was on the attack now and had her in the right place, but could he focus..... Jira began his hand signs, shouting "Thunder style: Lightning Vortex Jutsu!!!"
(Note: If the player feels like it, he may take the hit, but if not, the overseer must roll the d20 and count in the players DC. Overseer will inform the player he has been hit through PM, then the player will post.)
Overseer rolls DC and Attack bonuses.
Overseer: Kita is trapped by the full force of the jutsu.
Kita: Kita sprints towards Jira but his barrier prevents her from reaching him, and she runs full on into the lightning cage.
Kiroku: Jira executes the last part of the jutsu, sending a full wall of electricity towards Kita.
Overseer rolls the damage total. Since it is a secret technique, he rolls a d10. Jira causes 7 points of damage to Kita, and since she fought before that as well losing 1hp, knocks her unconsious.
NPC's are a whole different story. The NPC (Non-player Character) is strictly controlled by the Overseer, and could be anything from Orochimaru in a story to a mailman. To converse with an NPC be sure to state in the post who you are talking to. The Overseer will then post back replying to whatever you have said. In combat, the Overseer will inform the group of some of the stats of the character, but not his jutsu unless the Overseer sees fit.
~~~~~RPing and what to do~~~~~

Everyone knows how to RP a little bit, but what separates us from the others out there? Well for one, we have an Overseer so that the game is not strictly run by players. But the players have a very important job. The overseer might decide to have a secret technique scroll hidden in an area, but he wont just tell you. It is the job of the player to ask questions about what they see in the room around them. They can pretty much do anything. Example:

Overseer: You walk into the hotel, asking the secretary for a room
Secretary: "May i help you?"

Kita: "Yes, you can. We're looking for the room slept in last week by one 'Okabutu Hami'

Secretary: "3rd floor, left hallway, room 134"

Overseer: Kita, Dejiko, and Jira make their way up to the room and open the door. It looks like any normal hotel room would, bed on the right wall with a picture hanging above the headboard featuring the sea. On the wall farthest from the group is a glass sliding door leading out to a balcony. The left wall features a door leading to the bathroom and a television on a large entertainment center which also has a stereo.

Kiroku: "We should search everything around here and find that forbidden scroll before he figuires out how to open it." Jira was worried he might come back soon. He was staying for a while, and the scroll was probably here.

Kita: OVERSEER, I look on the back of the painting under the wood of the frame, do i find anything?

Overseer: Yes, you find a bag.

Kita: I open the bag, what do i find.

Overseer: Upon opening the bag you are sprayed with a toxin that knocks you out.

Kiroku: I run over to Kita and grab the bag from her, pointing it away and reaching inside it. What do i find.

Overseer: You have found the scroll.

Dejiko: I pick Kita up and carry her out of the room as we run away.

See? It might seem long, but without that necessary detail, the mission might have been failed.

THE FINAL ADDITION!

This is the final rule section i will be addding. After this, the rules are now complete and we can REALLY begin. I thought i would have this done sooner, but better late than never....

~~~~~Using Defensive Jutsu~~~~~
We covered Offensive jutsu in the example earlier, but there was no counter or other means of defense shown, so it's time I shed a little light on the subject. Use of a defensive jutsu (which might need to be made up) can be done in the same manner of the offensive one. Example:
Kiroku Jira (:D yet again. What do you expect, he's my character) is in the midst of a battle with Okabutu Hami for the forbidden scroll stolen, and then restolen. Okabutu is starting off since he has the element of surprise. Watch and see how Kiroku AND Okabutu both use defensive jutsu of different types to counter each other
Okabutu: Okabutu leapt from the ground he stood on, using a rock embedded in the ground behind his foot for extra speed. He came down using his taijutsu "Rain of Boulder Fists".
OVERSEER: *Rolls dice and determines hit or no hit* You surpass the DC of Kiroku
/// Now Kiroku gets a chance to respond with a defence of his choosing. NOTE: If the speed level is determined by the overseer as too fast for a counter (Atk Speed also has something to do with it) he may delete/ edit the post of the defender saying that resistance did not come fast enough//
Kiroku: *Overseer edit* Since this is a fast, yet light attack, defence could not come in time
OVERSEER: You hit Kiroku, causing -1 damage
Kiroku: I leap up on to my feet and look at my surroundings, what do i see?
OVERSEER: You see nothing but trees, until you survey the ground. On the edges of the forest, a metal pole sticks out of each side. You also notice one behind you *NOTE here that the overseer must attempt to give each player a slight advantage in the area around them, unless that area has already been used with no mention of the item*
Kiroku: I summon my inside lightning and connect the rods all together in a triange shape. I then motion and lift the lightning into a sheer wall, like a cage.
Okabutu: I stomp into the ground and kick up pebbles, which i swirl into a tornado and shoot at Kiroku
OVERSEER: *Rolls dice* Kiroku, you may block
Kiroku: I motion for the back wall to come towards me, moving through Okabutu and his pebbles
OVERSEER: *Rolls dice* Your attack/block succeded. Okabutu, you are temporarily paralyzed
Kiroku: The pebbles get charged with electricity and I control them, directing them back at Okabutu
OVERSEER: Okabutu, you are hit with the charged pebbles, causing -5 damage
Etc. etc. etc.
Stuff like that counter can happen all the time.
WELL THEN. IT SEEMS LIKE IVE COVERED ALMOST EVERYTHING, IT'S TIME TO REALLY START THE GAME. I AM SOON MAKING EVEN MORE MISSIONS, MOSTLY JUST BECAUSE I HAVE ANOTHER PLANE FLIGHT COMING UP. BUT I HAVE A PSP NOW AND IM GETTING FF7: ADVENT CHILDREN FOR IT :D Hooray me!!
